SAUZE D’OULX 2015—ITS NEARLY TIME!
Essentials—ITEMS.
1. Have you got your passport and EHIC out yet to check their expiry date?
Please give in your Passport and EHIC, in a clearly labelled envelope, to Student Services by FRIDAY 6TH FEBRUARY.

2. Have you got a small ruck-sack to carry onto the coach (and use on the mountain)?
3. Have you got a MEDIUM size hold bag to put your ski gear and clothes in?
I really mean it about the bag!
I really mean it about the bag!
4. Have you got a ski jacket and salopettes?
5. Ski socks, gloves, hat, neck, sensible clothes.
6. Goggles AND sunglasses.
7. Suncream AND LIP SUN BLOCK.
8. Have you decided on your coach-based entertainment?
9. It might be really really (-20 with wind chill) cold. It might be really (sunburn like you have never known)hot! Pack accordingly. In more than a decade of leading these ski trips we have yet to have had a session called off due to weather….despite some of the weather being REALLY difficult.
10. HAVE YOU REMEMBERED YOUR MEDICATION? DO YOU HAVE AN INHALOR THAT HAS NOT GONE PAST ITS USE BY DATE?
Essentials—INFORMATION.
1. We leave on FRIDAY 13 FEBRUARY at 17:00!! This has changed from earlier information! The coach will park in the front car park of the school—ask parents to park along the side of the school away from the coach space! It will need to turn around the raised garden—don’t park there.
2. We get back on SATURDAY 21 FEBRUARY at approximately 13:45. Regular updates will appear on the blog during the morning. We will park on the road immediately outside the school gates. PLEASE ASK PARENTS TO LEAVE SPACE FOR US TO PARK! Several years ago we had to park outside the Hockey Club due to parents parking in all available space on the road.
3. SPENDING MONEY—
* The coach journey there and back - Although I take numerous snacks onto the coach with me, the reality is I will be on the coach for a dinner, breakfast then lunch. Across the 3 meals I normally budget approximately 30 Euros. On the way back a full meal will be served before departure and a packed lunch provided for the following day. I only budget 20 Euros for the way back.
* 'Drinks and Snacks' - their is a supermarket in town that students will have a chance to visit - when visiting the shop it is normal to return to the hotel laden with enough sweets, chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks to give an elephant a heart-attack. 50 Euros more than covers snacks for the week.
* Soft drinks at the Disco, Karaoke etc - 20 Euros.
* TOTAL SPENDING MONEY- 120 Euros (approx £95 at current exchange rates)
* Anything over and above this often gets spent on presents on the way back. The itinerary is packed, and as hot food is provided at both lunch and dinner, their is very little opportunity to spend anymore.

Essentials—The GUIDELINES TO A GREAT TIME and the RULES.
1. Going skiing is extraordinary—enjoy every second of it. Be mindful of every moment.
2. Be excellent to each another.
3. Join in, be silly, let stuff go, talk to people you wouldn't normally talk to, challenge yourself to sit next to someone new at dinner.
4. Consider civilians.
5. It’s a nice hotel—wear your clothes and inside shoes.
6. Before your do anything in the least bit suspect, stop and think about the consequences.
7. Never, ever, ever ski without an instructor.
8. Always wear your helmet.
9. The nicer you are to your instructor, the better ski experience you will have.
10. Demonstrate you can consistently ski in a controlled and safe fashion and respond to instructions quickly ...THEN your instructor will take you to higher, faster, more extreme slopes. Some of our best groups have spent 50% of their week off-piste AFTER they proved their proficiency and trustworthiness.
11. Staff don't decide on the ski groups, the instructor's do.
12. If you hurt yourself tell us.
13. Eat lots, drink lots of fluid.
14. SLEEP AND LET OTHERS SLEEP.
15. If you haven't done any exercise yet—DO SOME!
16. Look at the snowball in your hand, is it actually an iceball? If so …. drop it.
17. As of 2012 the legal alcohol drinking age in Italy is 18. It is a new law and strictly enforced. Make the wrong choice about this and you will ruin your own trip and the atmosphere of the trip for everybody else when they see your daily misery at not being allowed to ski.
Honestly….really…. It is not worth it.
Honestly….really…. It is not worth it.
18. As of 2009 the legal smoking age in Italy is 18. It is illegal to smoke in all public use buildings. If you do smoke use the trip as a launch-pad to stop doing it.
19. ….and finally “How long till we get there?” ……. The answer will always, always be “10mins”. ;-)
